Fitness trainer Svetlana Butova, in an interview with Sport-Express, stated that the neck is one of the most vulnerable areas of the human body. For instance, long hours spent sitting at a computer with constant tension in the shoulders, as well as professions that involve physical strain on the hands (such as hairdressing, manicure services, or photography), ultimately lead to neck pain.
According to the expert, taking painkillers in such cases is not the right approach. These medications only reduce the perception of pain without addressing its underlying cause. Instead, Svetlana suggested trying a simple exercise that helps relax the muscles, relieve tension, and reduce spasms.
“This exercise does not require any special equipment, gear, or even a mat. It can be done at any time when you have a free minute,” the trainer added.
To begin, tilt your head slightly to the right, trying to bring your ear closer to your shoulder. At the same time, lower your left shoulder and hold it in this position for a few seconds, while continuing to breathe. Butova emphasized that you should feel lightness in the neck area, not pain. Afterward, repeat the movement on the opposite side.
At the end of the conversation, the trainer added that this exercise can be done either sitting or standing, as long as you keep your back straight.
