Fitness Trainer Explains How to Get Rid of Leg Cramps

In an interview with Sport-Express, fitness trainer Svetlana Butova stated that to relieve cramps, it’s essential to reduce the tension in the spasming muscle.

“If you experience a cramp in your foot or calf muscles, the first thing you need to do is stretch that area. Pull your foot towards you and hold that position for a few seconds,” the expert noted.

In addition to stretching, the trainer also recommended massage. According to her, it is one of the most effective ways to relieve a cramp.

“You can massage the muscle group even during the cramp. This will help relax the affected area and reduce discomfort,” said the trainer.

Cramps are often accompanied by pain, and to alleviate it, Svetlana recommended using nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. These can significantly ease the condition and help you return to training. A warm shower can also be beneficial. It will relax the muscles and help release excessive tension after a cramp.

To prevent cramps in the future, it’s important to attend yoga classes and flexibility training. These exercises make muscles more elastic and promote better blood circulation.
